Day 7~
September 29, 2011
After a delightful quiche breakfast at the Inn, we enjoyed a little crisp morning air before our day drive to Silverton. We were hoping to find fall color and the mountains did not disappoint.
The historical Durango & Silverton train departed earlier than we did and we passed it at the start of its journey through the mountain. When I was a young child I went on that train with my family; I remember the beauty of the forest trees and looking straight down at the fast flowing river. Next time...
The trees became more golden as we gained elevation. The temperature dropped. There was rain in the forecast.
Visiting the old mining town of Silverton...
The train arrived a long while after we were there...
Driving down the mountain and back to Durango...
Back at the Inn; this Aspen hadn't become golden yet...
Except for a few of its leaves...
There was change in the air though; in one day the weather changed from a warm summer day to a cool fall afternoon. It was gray with a few intermittent sprinkles, very windy and cold! The Aspens were quaking. Julia and James rolled and rolled down this hill at our bed and breakfast for a couple hours until dinner time.
I love this picture of James; it looks like he is praying. Julia taught him this position for rolling faster down the hill!
