A Visit With Dear Friends

We were blessed with spending time with our dear friends when they came "home" for a visit. This was three months ago. I thought I should bring this blog up to the current date as we will be taking a road trip to visit these same friends very soon. My plan is to document our road trip with pictures of the Autumn Southwest and post them as we travel.

BERRY PICKING

This is the evidence of a tea party left by a few little girls. One of the older boys found a honey comb live and active with wild bees; he managed to give the comb dripping with honey to the girls without a sting. The girls made honey and blackberry treats. So sweet!

San Pedro Fish Market

APRIL 7 Today we met with friends for a stroll through the San Pedro Fish Market. The fish, whole, packed on ice and neatly lined captured our attention. Not only could one purchase a fresh catch to take home, but many customers had theirs cooked and served right there on the wharf.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide

Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;

And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,

And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea gulls crying.

Sunday Afternoon, Together with Dear Friends

Tall Ships Festival
Dana Point

Pirate Story
Robert Louis Stevenson

THREE of us afloat in the meadow by the swing,
Three of us aboard in the basket on the lea.
Winds are in the air, they are blowing in the spring,
And waves are on the meadow like the waves there are at sea.

Where shall we adventure, to-day that we ’re afloat,
Wary of the weather and steering by a star?
Shall it be to Africa, a-steering of the boat,
To Providence, or Babylon, or off to Malabar?

Hi! but here ’s a squadron a-rowing on the sea—
Cattle on the meadow a-charging with a roar!
Quick, and we ’ll escape them, they ’re as mad as they can be,
The wicket is the harbor and the garden is the shore.

Summer Days

Almost ready...

Summer Days
WITH FRIENDS

Dear friends

Friends...

That are now far away

Miles separate

Their hugs

But not their LOVE

We miss you dear friends and cannot wait to see you again!

Homemade bread
With fresh garlic, kosher salt, olive oil, and garden rosemary drizzled on top right before baking...

The mortar and pestle below was used for the topping which
helped bring out the flavors by pressing and grinding the ingredients together.

The best bread yet!

Next to the Mortar and Pestle are good book finds for only $3.00!
Beautiful vintage books:

CHILDREN OF OTHER LANDS by Watty Piper, illustrated by Holling C. Holling

GEORGE WASHINGTON'S WORLD by Genevieve Foster

A wonderful breakfast she made...
